Price increased by at least 1% in the last bar.
The calculation compares the most recent 5-minute bar's close to the close of the immediately prior 5-minute bar. A 1% gain in a single 5-minute interval is significant — for a $200 stock, that is a $2 move in 5 minutes, roughly 10-15x normal single-bar velocity in calm markets. The filter has no volume, trend, or indicator qualifier. It identifies the event — a sharp upward price velocity — and leaves context to the trader. Because it fires on raw price change alone, it will trigger on thin stocks, news events, and broad market spikes equally. The signal is most informative when filtered further by VWAP position or the ORB 15m + VWAP Breakout screen, which combines this momentum with structural context.
A 1% 5-minute gain means different things at different times of day. At 9:32 AM, it may be a gap continuation playing out in real time. At 11:15 AM in a choppy market, it may be a one-bar noise spike that reverses immediately. The opening 30-minute window (9:30–10:00 AM) generates the most true-positive readings because institutional order flow is heaviest. Failure modes: (1) single large block trade that prints 1% above the bid and immediately corrects — visible as a wick, not a close; (2) broad market spike where the entire universe triggers simultaneously — the screener loses selectivity; (3) low-float stocks where 1% moves are routine and carry no directional information. For sustained intraday momentum rather than a single-bar spike, the Gap Up 1%+ screen (daily timeframe) is more structurally meaningful.

This screener flags stocks that gained more than 1% on the current 5-minute bar relative to the previous bar's close. It captures sharp intraday momentum bursts — the kind that precede continuation moves or mark the start of a breakout. Currently 0 stocks match, meaning no stock in the universe met this threshold on the most recent bar. Day traders use this as a real-time momentum alert, often pairing it with a watch for VWAP position and volume to filter actionable moves from noise.
