Trading above the 15-minute opening range high and clearing previous session's high.
The Opening Range High (15m) is the intraday ceiling from the first 15 minutes. The previous day's high on the 5-Min chart is the highest price traded in the entire prior session — a level where sellers previously held. When both are cleared on the same 5-minute close, it means the stock has simultaneously broken out of its opening range and pushed above a meaningful prior resistance level. The daily chart high filter adds structural significance: the ORB alone captures intraday momentum; the PDH adds a cross-session breakout dimension. Together they identify stocks with both intraday conviction and multi-session momentum. The 15-minute session guard prevents premature firing.
PDH breakouts are statistically stronger when the prior day's high was also a multi-day or weekly high — the more confluence at that level, the more significant the break. A stock clearing a PDH that was just yesterday's range high carries less significance than one clearing a level that acted as resistance for 3-5 sessions. The most common failure mode is a false PDH break: price pierces the prior high intrabar, triggers the signal, then closes back below it on the same 5-minute candle — a wick rather than a close. Volume confirmation on the break bar is important. Also watch for: (1) extended gap-up opens where the stock opens above the PDH and the ORB forms entirely above it — technically the screen fires immediately but the setup lacks clean structure; (2) end-of-day PDH breaks in the last 30 minutes that don't have time to follow through. Related screen: Gap Up 1%+ often precedes this setup when a stock gaps above the PDH at the open.

This screener finds stocks that have broken above both the 15-minute Opening Range High and the prior day's high (PDH) — a dual-level confirmation that is more demanding than a standard ORB breakout. Clearing the previous session's high means the stock has overcome supply from every seller who participated yesterday. Currently 23 stocks match. Swing traders and breakout traders use this to find stocks making multi-day continuation moves rather than intraday noise. Search phrases: prior day high breakout stocks, PDH breakout screener, ORB and previous day high break. Compare to ORB 15m + VWAP Breakout for the intraday-average-price confirmation version.
